Hedgehogs are small animals that in gardens, parks and woods in many parts of Europe. They have about 5,000 sharp spines on their backs. When a hedgehog is , it rolls into a ball so that other animals cannot hurt it. Hedgehogs sleep during the day and look for food at night. They eat insects, but they also like worms and fruit. In winter, when there isn't much food, they sleep for several months. Many people want to help hedgehogs, so they a small hole at the bottom of their garden fence.
